# Email your audience

> Send newsletters and broadcasts to your customers, and read and reply to messages right inside Crevio -- with Crevio writing the words for you.

Email is still one of the best ways to stay close to the people who buy from you. Crevio gives you two things in one place: a way to send messages out to your audience, and an inbox to read and reply to the messages that come back.

The best part? You don't have to be a writer. Just tell Crevio what you want to say and it drafts the email for you.

## Send a broadcast or newsletter

A broadcast is one message sent to many people at once -- a product launch, a weekly newsletter, a sale announcement, or a heads-up about something new.

You can send to everyone, or to just one group of people. For example, send a thank-you offer to only your paying customers, or a gentle nudge to people who signed up but haven't bought yet.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open Broadcasts">
    In your dashboard, go to **Email** and switch to the **Broadcasts** tab, then click **New broadcast**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write the subject and message">
    Add a subject line, and a preview line -- the short bit of text people see next to the subject in their inbox. Then write your message.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose who gets it">
    Send to everyone, or pick a group -- only your paying customers, your free members, or your leads. You can also narrow it down using [tags](/docs/features/tags), or search for specific people by name or email. Crevio shows you how many people the broadcast will reach as you go.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Ask Crevio to write it">
    Prefer not to write it yourself? Tell Crevio what the email is about -- "write a friendly newsletter announcing my new course" -- and it drafts a subject line and message for you. Read it over and tweak anything you like.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Send, schedule, or save">
    Send it right away, pick a date and time for it to go out later, or save it as a draft and come back to it.
  </Step>
</Steps>

### See how it performed

Every broadcast keeps a record of how it did. Open one from the Broadcasts list to see how many people received it, how many opened it, how many clicked, and which links they clicked most. You can also see the result for each individual person -- useful for spotting an address that keeps bouncing.

A scheduled broadcast can be canceled before it goes out, and one that is mid-send can be stopped -- though anyone it already reached will still receive it.

<Note>
  **Click tracking needs your own domain.** Until you connect one, Crevio doesn't measure clicks, and the click numbers stay empty. That's on purpose -- measuring clicks means routing every link in your email through a tracking address, and doing that on a shared address is one of the fastest ways to end up in spam folders. Connect your domain and Crevio sets up a tracking address on it for you, so your links stay on your own domain and tracking turns on by itself.
</Note>

<Tip>
  Take open rates with a pinch of salt. Apple Mail automatically loads images for its users, which counts as an "open" whether or not anyone actually read your email. Clicks are the honest measure of whether your email worked.
</Tip>

### Unsubscribes

Every broadcast includes an unsubscribe link, and most email apps also show their own "Unsubscribe" button. This is required by law for marketing email, so it can't be turned off.

When someone unsubscribes, Crevio remembers -- they are automatically left out of every future broadcast, so you never have to keep a list yourself. The same goes for addresses that bounce or mark your email as spam. Respecting this is what keeps your emails landing in the inbox rather than the spam folder.

<Tip>
  Not sure what to send? Ask Crevio. Try "draft a monthly newsletter with a tip and a link to my latest product" and it will give you a starting point you can edit.
</Tip>

## Who you can't email

Some addresses are permanently skipped, and the **Suppressions** tab under **Email** is where you see them and why.

An address lands there in one of four ways:

| Reason           | What happened                                                                               |
| ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Bounced** | Their mail server permanently rejected the message -- usually the address no longer exists. |
| **Spam report** | They marked one of your emails as spam. |
| **Unsubscribed** | They used the unsubscribe link. |
| **Added by you** | You put them on the list yourself. |

Crevio adds the first three automatically. Every email you send skips these addresses, broadcasts and one-to-one replies alike -- you don't have to remember who to leave out.

You can add an address yourself with **Add address**, which is handy when someone asks to stop hearing from you by replying rather than clicking unsubscribe.

<Note>
  The table shows the 500 most recently added addresses, newest first, and filtering by reason shows the 500 most recent of that reason. The count on each tab covers your whole list, however long it is. There is no search box, so if your list is longer than that and you need to find one specific older address, [get in touch](/docs/troubleshooting/contact-support).
</Note>

<Warning>
  You can remove an address from the list, but think twice before removing a bounce or a spam report. Sending to an address that permanently rejected you, or to someone who reported you as spam, damages your reputation with email providers -- and that affects whether *everyone else* on your list sees your emails. Only remove one when the person has actually asked you to email them again.
</Warning>

## See how your email is doing overall

The **Analytics** tab under **Email** shows everything together -- broadcasts and one-to-one replies -- over the last 7 days, 30 days, 90 days, or 12 months.

You get how many emails you sent, how many were delivered, how many were opened and clicked, how many bounced, and how many recipients were skipped because they were on your suppression list. There's a chart of your sending volume, and a breakdown splitting broadcasts from one-to-one email.

<Note>
  Opens and clicks are only measured for broadcasts. One-to-one email -- your replies to customers -- carries no tracking, on purpose: a personal reply shouldn't quietly report back when someone reads it. That's why those columns show a dash for one-to-one email.
</Note>

<Tip>
  A bounce rate creeping above a few percent usually means your list has gone stale. A rising spam-report count is more urgent -- pause your sending and look at who you're emailing and how often.
</Tip>

## Your inbox inside Crevio

Crevio also gives you an inbox, so the replies and questions from your customers land in one place -- no need to jump between your email app and your dashboard.

You can read every conversation, reply by hand, or let Crevio draft a reply for you to review before it goes out.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open your inbox">
    In your dashboard, go to **Email**. The **Email** tab is your inbox, with all of your conversations.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Read a message">
    Click any conversation to see the full back-and-forth.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Reply, or let Crevio draft it">
    Type your reply, or ask Crevio to draft one. Crevio reads the conversation and suggests a response. You stay in control -- nothing is sent until you say so.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Tip>
  Ask Crevio to "draft a polite reply offering a refund" or "answer their question about access" and it will write a response based on the conversation. You can edit it before sending.
</Tip>

## Send from your own domain

By default, your emails go out from a Crevio address. If you have your own domain (like `hello@yourbusiness.com`), you can send from that instead, so your messages look like they come straight from you. This builds trust and helps your emails land in the inbox rather than the spam folder.

<Note>
  Setting up your own domain takes a few minutes and a small one-time setup with your domain provider. Crevio walks you through it step by step -- and if you bought your domain through Crevio, it does the whole thing for you.
</Note>

Connecting your domain also switches on click tracking, using a tracking address on your own domain (`click.yourbusiness.com`). If you already use that address for something else, Crevio leaves it untouched and tells you instead of breaking it.

## If something goes wrong

<AccordionGroup>
  <Accordion title="My broadcast didn't reach everyone">
    Double-check which group you sent to. If you picked "paying customers" only, people who haven't bought won't receive it. Send a follow-up to the wider group if needed.

    People who unsubscribed, whose address bounced, or who marked an earlier email as spam are always left out. The recipient count on the broadcast reflects who it actually went to. To see exactly who is being skipped and why, open the **Suppressions** tab under **Email**.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="I hit a sending limit">
    Each plan includes a set number of emails per day. If you reach it, wait until the next day or upgrade your plan. A broadcast you scheduled will simply go out once the limit resets -- you don't need to set it up again.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="My emails are landing in spam">
    Sending from your own domain greatly improves where your emails land. If you haven't set up your domain yet, do that first. Also avoid spammy words and too many links in a single email.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Click numbers are empty but people definitely clicked">
    Click tracking only runs once you've connected your own domain and its tracking address is live. Check **Settings → Domains**: if the tracking record is still pending, add it at your domain provider (or ask Crevio to) and clicks will start recording on your next broadcast.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="A reply isn't showing in my inbox">
    Give it a moment -- new replies can take a short while to appear. If a customer replied to an old message from a different address, it may start a new conversation rather than continue the old one.
  </Accordion>

  <Accordion title="Crevio's draft isn't quite right">
    Just tell it what to change -- "make it shorter", "warmer", or "mention the discount". You can also edit the text yourself before sending.
  </Accordion>
