# Your own web address (domain)

> Buy a brand-new web address inside Crevio, or connect one you already own -- and let Crevio get it live for you.

A web address (also called a domain) is the name people type to reach your site -- like `yourbrand.com`. Every Crevio site starts with a free web address so it works right away, but using your own makes your business look polished and easy to remember.

There are two ways to get there, and Crevio makes both simple. You can buy a brand-new web address in a few clicks, or connect one you already own. Either way, Crevio handles the technical side and tells you when everything is live.

## Why you'd use this

* **You look more professional.** `yourbrand.com` builds far more trust than a generic address.
* **People remember you.** A clean name is easier to share, type, and recommend.
* **It is all in one place.** Buy, connect, and manage your web address right inside Crevio -- no separate company to deal with.

## Option 1: Buy a brand-new web address

This is the easiest path. You search for a name, buy it, and Crevio connects it to your site automatically -- no setup on your end.

    Once you have bought it, Crevio automatically links the web address to your site. There is nothing for you to set up -- it just starts working.

### It renews itself

A web address you buy through Crevio is registered for a year and set to renew automatically, so it can't quietly lapse and leave your site unreachable. Crevio keeps track of the renewal date and reminds you before it comes around, so there's nothing to diary.

## Option 2: Connect a web address you already own

If you already bought a web address somewhere else, you can point it at your Crevio site. Crevio shows you the exact settings to copy, and confirms the moment it goes live.

## Turn on email at your web address

Once you have a web address, you can also use it for email -- so you send and receive messages from an address like `hello@yourbrand.com` instead of a personal one. It is a small touch that makes your business feel far more established. Just turn it on when you set up your web address, or ask Crevio to enable it.

## If something goes wrong

    When you connect a web address you already own, it can take a little time to become active -- anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours, and occasionally up to a day. This is normal and out of anyone's control; it is just how the internet spreads the change around. Crevio keeps checking and will confirm as soon as it is live, so you can move on and come back later.

    Double-check that you copied the settings exactly as Crevio showed them, with no extra spaces or typos. After you save them at your provider, it can still take a little while to take effect. If you are stuck, tell Crevio who you bought your web address from and ask for step-by-step help.

    Right after checkout, Crevio is registering the name with the registry -- that normally takes a few minutes. Until it finishes, your web address can look the same as one nobody has bought. You do not need to pay again, and trying to will just tell you that you already own it. Give it a few minutes and check back; Crevio confirms as soon as it's registered.

    Occasionally a registration fails after you've paid — the name may have been taken moments earlier, or the registry may have rejected it. If that happens, Crevio refunds you automatically and emails you to explain. The name stays unclaimed, so if you still want it, try again promptly or pick one of the alternatives Crevio suggests.

    If you are buying a new web address and your first choice is unavailable, try one of Crevio's suggested alternatives, or a slightly different ending (for example, a different word after the dot). Crevio will show you what is free.

  <Accordion title="A specific ending (like .ca, .uk, or .travel) isn't offered">
    A handful of endings -- currently `.ca`, `.uk`, `.us`, `.ngo`, `.ong`, and `.travel` -- aren't available to buy through Crevio. Their registries require proof of local residency or organizational eligibility that Crevio can't attest to on your behalf. Pick a different ending, such as `.com` or `.co`, or connect one of these if you already own it from a registrar that verified your eligibility directly.

    If you do not already own a web address, buy a new one inside Crevio -- it is the simplest path and Crevio connects it automatically. If you already own one, use the connect option so you keep the name you have.
